Learning styles do not only reflect the way kids learn but us as adults too.
Learning styles definition
Learning styles are defined as models explaining different learning methods. These modalities all describe the way someone prefers to learn.
Your learning style or method of learning will predict the way, and the words you choose, to remember and describe events.

Learning Style Activity Number 1
Letter, Number and Shape Activity
This activity will:
- teach kids the letters of the alphabet, numbers and shapes
- whilst exposing and shaping their learning styles
- this is an activity that can be used for all ages
By giving your children the freedom to choose the way they want to manipulate the activity, without instruction, will be a good indicator of his or her preferred learning style.
Activity instructions
- Write or print out big font letters on cardboard and then follow the instruction below for each of the different learning styles
- Visual learning style activities
- give your child the numbers, letters or shapes to look at and let them trace the outline with their fingers
- Tactile learning style activities
- have them cut the letters out with scissors
- provide
- stickers
- flat glass beads
- shells or
- pasta to stick onto the letters to decorate it
- Auditory learning style activities
- talk about the name of the letter and words that start with or contain the letter
- always focus first on the letters in their names
- Auditory and verbal learning style activities
- sing a song pertaining to the relevant word
- Verbal reading and writing learning style activities
- ask kids to repeat the names of each letter after you and
- try to replicate the letter on paper
- when older than 6 years, let them practice writing the words
- Visual learning style activities
- print or draw pictures of objects starting with the relevant letter and
- have your child group them with the corresponding letter
- Interpersonal learning style activities
- do some of the activity with them
- Intrapersonal learning style activities
- leave them to do some parts on their own
Top Learning Styles Activities Tip
It is very important to allow kids to do part of the activity alone
Why?
The answer here is very important and two-fold
1. You will easily discover
- whether they prefer working on their own or in a group
- continue working with them if that is their preference
- also get them to do some parts alone
2. Introduce and develop an essential learning skill
- the ability to entertain themselves without having someone around!
- giving you some much-needed time to get things done in and around the house. A true lifesaving skill!

Let me give you a real-life example of this activity and learning style discovery in action
Activity Example
The image below shows what my 5-year-old son created when I gave him
- a page with his name written and
- a selection of
- interesting beads and ornaments
- pretty shells
- good quality colored pencils and
- colored stickers
After giving him free rein and observing his actions for a while, it was actually very easy to discover both his
1. Preferred learning styles
- visual, logical, verbal and intrapersonal and
2. Lesser used learning styles
- auditory, physical and interpersonal
Now you might be wondering
What did I base these observations on? Easy.
I simply considered the following criteria while observing him complete the activity
1. Preferred learning style indicators
- creative initiative displayed?
- activity enjoyed?
- the way he used the provided materials
2. Lesser used learning style indicators
- needed a lot of guidance?
- limited interaction or interest was shown in the activity?

The Fun Fact Sheet Activity
The activity will
- in an easy and fun way, help kids learn facts about their bodies
The sheets are designed to
- educate kids with various learning styles
- help you discover your child’s preferred method of learning and
- assist you in teaching them different ways or styles of learning
- help you improve their overall learning capacity, skills, and memory
This is an activity that can be used for all ages
- for kids younger than 4 years of age
- use shapes rather than numbers and letters
Initial learning style discovery tip
Prior to instructing the kids, give them one page and
- ask for suggestions of what they would like to do with it
- give the freedom to choose the way they want to manipulate the activity without instruction
- this will give you a great first impression of their learning style of choice
After your initial assessment of their preferred style, continue to lead the activity by following the instructions below.
Learning style activity instructions
- Download the fun fact sheets and print two copies of each one, preferably in color
- Visual learning style activities
- if you printed the sheets in black and white, start with having the kids color the sheets
- Tactile learning style activities
- give them one of the sheets to cut the facts out with child-safe scissors
- ask them to arrange the cut pieces on top of the uncut page, trying to find its position based on color and size
- Auditory learning style activities
- read the facts with the kids or let them read it out loud
- have them repeat the facts, and try and see how many they can remember
- Verbal reading and writing learning styles activities
- have kids older than 6 years of age, re-write the facts
- Interpersonal learning
- do some of the activity with them
- Intrapersonal learning
- leave them to do some on their own
- Remember to note their engagement for each activity
- in order to discover the preferred and lesser-used learning styles
